VA Rush Welcomes Mercy Akide-Udoh

mercyVirginia Rush is proud and excited to announce the addition of “Marvelous” Mercy Akide-Udoh to our coaching staff.

Mercy started playing soccer at the age of 5 in her hometown of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. From a very early age, it was apparent that she was born to play soccer.  Mercy’s soccer accomplishments are many, and include the following:

  • Played on a soccer scholarship at Milligan College in Tennessee
  • First African Women’s Footballer of the year – 2002
  • FIFA World All-Star – 1999 & 2004
  • Two-time Olympian – Nigeria – 2000 & 2004
  • Played in (3) FIFA Women’s World Cups w/ Nigeria’s Team
  • Helped Nigeria’s Super Falcons win three African Women Championships (AWC) Titles – 1998, 2000 & 2002
  • Named by FIFA as one of its 15 Ambassadors for Women Football – 2005
  • Former WUSA Professional player (Boston  Breakers & San Diego Spirit), Hampton Roads Piranhas W-League Player
  • USL Hall of Fame Inductee-2013
  • Youth Soccer Coach – 2006-Present

Mercy’s knowledge and passion for the game, her experience as a Coach and her love and enthusiasm with kids are all reasons  why Mercy will be an incredible asset to Virginia Rush Soccer.  Welcome Mercy!
