VIRGINIA RUSH’S MIGHTY MITES FAQ
It’s hard to have set criteria to determine if your child is ready. If they are ready for pre-school then they will be ready for this clinic. If they can run and laugh, then they are ready.
All Mighty Mites need shinguards, socks, tennis shoes or cleats and a size 3 soccer ball.
The program is set up for you to work one on one with your child. It is a fun learning environment. There will be a series of games and exercises which are not long in duration. This is due to players short attention span at young ages. Each session will be based on a ‘adventure’ involving soccer, the game and excitement for sport. Within the positive psychology we will focus on individual’s with a ball at their foot focusing mainly on dribbling, dribbling and more dribbling. We also emphasize the excitement of scoring goals and the concept behind that. The will be time it does not look like soccer and they may use their hands!
There are no set teams and no scheduled games in Mighty Mites. At the end of the season, the VA Rush Staff may introduce a 10 minute scrimmage for the kids. If so, they will play 3 against 3, with an emphasis on each player having fun.
We encourage players to participate without their parents. If the player needs the parent to jump into the session, we ask that the parent participate with a ball to show their child how much fun they are having in the activities. Sometimes players under 3 years old may not fully participate since it is so new to them. Give the player a chance to learn how it works to participate in a group and they will catch on after a few sessions. This is very common with players between 2 1/2 – 3 years old.
